Última obra teatral escrita en solitario por William Shakespeare (1564-1616), “La tempestad” pertenece a la serie de piezas de este autor que funden el ámbito de lo real con lo mágico y lo maravilloso. La trama gira en torno a Próspero –duque y mago, quien, traicionado y depuesto, tiene que exiliarse, con su hija Miranda, en una isla desierta en la que pasará doce años– y su relación con el genio Ariel y el bestial Calibán, personajes todos que se cuentan entre las grandes creaciones del dramaturgo. El examen de la relación entre realidad y ficción –«estamos tejidos de idéntica tela que los sueños»–, así como entre el hombre y mago y las criaturas a las que libera, pero también somete, otorgan a esta obra un lugar entre las más universales del autor inglés. Work Description

The Tempest is a play by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in 1610–11, and thought by many critics to be the last play that Shakespeare wrote alone. It is set on a remote island, where Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place using illusion and skilful manipulation. He conjures up a storm, the eponymous tempest, to lure his usurping brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of Naples to the island. There, his machinations bring about the revelation of Antonio's lowly nature, the redemption of the King, and the marriage of Miranda to Alonso's son, Ferdinand.
